چکیده

Iodate is almost immediately reduced to iodide following its intravenous administration to rats or rabbits. Even when it is given in relatively large doses, reduction is complete within 2 to 3 min. Following oral administration also, radioiodate is so rapidly transformed to radioiodide that 2-hour thyroid 13rI uptakes in rats that received radioiodate by stomach tube were not significantly different from those of rats that received radioiodide by the same route. These tidings support the view that iodate can substitute for iodide in all instances in which supplementary iodine is required for human or animal nutrition. Whole blood, resuspended washed red cells, and various tissue extracts reduce iodate to iodide very rapidly in vitro. However, plasma is much less effective than whole blood in reducing iodate. Iodate is rapidly reduced by glutathione at pH ‘7.4, but not by a number of other biological reducing agents. The stoichiometry of the reaction between GSH and iodate indicates that the reaction proceeds as follows.

Spectrophotometric Simultaneous Kinetic Determination of Iodide and Iodate Using Partial Least-Squares Calibration Method in a Single Kinetic Run

A rapid, sensitive and versatile kinetic method is presented for the simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of iodide and iodate by partial least-squares regression (PLS) using original and derivate data named as absorbance and rate data. The method is based on the catalytic effect of the cited anions on the reaction rate between Ce(IV) and As(III) in 2 mol l?1 sulfuric acid medium. The ...

Background: The objectives of this study were: a) to observe the influence of cumulus investment expansion on the nuclear chromatin configuration of canine oocytes matured in vitro; b) to examine the relationship between cumulus cell (CC) expansion and its morphology after in vitro maturation (IVM); c) to ascertain the influence of in vivo serum progesterone (SP) concentrations of ovary donors ...

The toxicology of iodate: a review of the literature.

Because it is more stable than iodide, most health authorities preferentially recommend iodate as an additive to salt for correcting iodine deficiency. Even though this results in a low exposure of at most 1,700 microg/d, doubts have recently been raised whether the safety of iodate has been adequately documented. In humans and rats, oral bioavailability of iodine from iodate is virtually equiv...

Simultaneous determination of iodide and iodate in seawater by transient isotachophoresis-capillary zone electrophoresis with artificial seawater as the background electrolyte.

We developed capillary zone electrophoresis with transient isotachophoresis (ITP) as an on-line concentration procedure for simultaneous determination of iodide and iodate in seawater. The effective mobility of iodide was decreased by addition of 20 mM cetyltrimethylammonium chloride to an artificial seawater background electrolyte so that transient ITP functioned for both iodide and iodate. Li...
